The Virtual Campus, Instructional Design and Delivery (iDD) office, is a resource for faculty and students alike interested in the latest innovations in digital media for teaching and learning.
The primary function of the department is to support faculty teaching in online or hybrid programs delivered through Gonzaga’s Learning Management System (LMS).
Our office provides instructional design and delivery services. It is a one-stop-shop for making your course available to students, in the online environment.
Instructional designers working for the iDD team serve primarily as resources to help faculty realize the full potential of technology to deliver content and support student learning. This process begins with an initial design consultation in which the instructional designer works with the faculty member to explore course goals and learning outcomes and walks the faculty member through the course design portfolio process. As the faculty member identifies course materials and assessments to be developed he or she will work with the designer to design and create the instructional elements such as step-by-step instructions, quizzes and tests, interactive media, and content presentations. Faculty members are always responsible for the course content but are encouraged to hand off the actual creation of instructional materials based on their content to the iDD team. Instructional designers will work closely with faculty members to design the instructional elements based on sound pedagogical approaches, including the Ignatian model for teaching and learning. Instructional designers also create design specifications for interactive media, which will be handed off to digital content producers for media production and implementation within courses. Support faculty in designing effective and engaging learning environments Support faculty in delivering instruction by organizing curriculum and content for online, face-to-face, synchronous and asynchronous delivery Serve as a resource for faculty by researching and implementing cutting-edge pedagogy and technology for learning
Digital content producers working for the iDD team produce the media required for course delivery. Content producers are included in the design stage of the course production process so that they can help guide media selection and serve as additional technology innovation resources for the faculty members and instructional designers. They manage resource allocation, copyright clearance, Blackboard implementation and the overall timeline for course media generation. Content producers are skilled individuals who stay up-to-date on the latest educational media trends and work with faculty members and instructional designers to produce high-quality media in a variety of mediums including, but not limited to; audio presentations, videos, interactive quizzes, social media, and other interactive elements. Additionally, content producers manage the process of branding all VC-produced media to align with Gonzaga University standards. Support faculty by creating educational multimedia (text, audio, video, animation) enhancements to courses Support faculty by building and maintaining courses in the Learning Management System (LMS), i.e. Blackboard Support faculty by maintaining Gonzaga University branding for course materials Supports all members of the Gonzaga community with video production and streaming of live events as resources allow.
